tv rant

TV on Friday to Sunday nights used to be good, the three commercial channels would each show one or two movies a night competing for the ratings, however with more and more households getting payTV each year the goodness of weekend TV has decreased rapidly. If I am lucky I might get one movie that looks interesting and when it comes to a 3hrs of escapism in front of the TV I am pleased quite easily.
All I want is to be able to watch a semi-decent movie on the weekend!

Since it is a four day weekend here at the moment, I hoped that at least a semi decent movie would be on but nothing.

Friday: 7 – Passion of Christ, 9 – Footy, 10 – General tv shows
Saturday: 7 – General tv shows, 9 – Paulie, 10 – Footy
Sunday: 7 – The Ten Commandments, 9 – Trapped, 10 – Small Claims 3

I was so desperate for a movie last night that I went to the video store and rented a couple of DVDs. I picked up Elizabethtown (loved it), Off the Map (weird), Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (dude it’s the DD plot with Latin Ballroom, it rocked πŸ™‚ ) and Anita & Me (haven’t watched it yet).

the sweetest day

The 6 5 things that make this day stellar.

1 – My new lens arrived – Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM

2 – a sweet little care package from my second mother, Tracy.

3 – Bought U2 tickets πŸ™‚ Andrea, Matthew and I are going to U2 πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

4 – Ben Lee is on Live at the Chapel tonight!

5 – Veronica Mars is on TV tonight, it premiered last week, sure it is slightly pointless but fun.

6 – Now that I have typed this out, I can’t recall the sixth thing πŸ™

Blossoms and movies

Blossoms As some of you may know I have recently had no real interest in scrapbooking but yesterday I printed off some photos and then this evening I sat down to have a little play and popped out this one. As long as I don’t spend too much time chatting to people on Messenger I am a relatively quick scrapper, as an image will pop into my head fairly quickly after selecting photos and cardstock and finish most pages in about 30 minutes.

AS part of my anti-boredness campaign, I rented a few DVD’s out the other day, I picked up Kinsey(which was so not what I expected), Crazy/Beautiful (oh the Romeo and Juliet story line set in teen angst, really liked this movie, seemed so real, the turmoil that Carlos had between his family and Nicole, etc etc good stuff and well Jay Hernandez the actor playing Carlos is pretty nice looking), Beyond Borders (really liked how this movie spanned the three events over the period of ten years and well the scene in the beginning where Clive Owens comes barging in just sets the whole scene) and finally Napoleon Dynamite(I got this out after hearing so many people rave on about it but I have to say I didn’t really think it was much of a decent thing, sure it was different to most films but still so not what I felt it was cracked up to be).

The Patchwork Tree had a sale today so I popped on down to add to my stash, I picked up some Amy Butler Charm fabrics as well as some more Japanese imports, oh I wish I could find that company’s website as I would be in heaven.

New Music Find: Ian Broudie

I was watching some OC Season 3 previews and as always I was intrigued by the music in the background, very much reminded me of a male Missy Higgins, or an older Ben Lee or The Mountain Goats with less twang. So I sat at my computer googling and googling some the lyrics trying to find out who was singing this utterly beautiful song, eventually I hit on the right keywords and found out that the song playing was “Song for No One” by Ian Broudie

From night skies dressed in clouds
Morning came, your taste in my mouth
I like the way that your hair falls down in your eyes
And you blush when you smile
When sleep combs your side then far away flies

I love the way that you stare when the sleep fills your eyes
So yesterday has gone
Who knows, tomorrow may bring all we’ll desire
Tomorrow brings the sun

Kiss the world with fingers crossed
I’ve kissed the world with fingers crossed
I’ve been praised
I’ve been cursed
I’ve been blamed
And I’ve won
And I’ve lost

On waves that fill your heart
The future glides
I hope the serpents in the tide
Are all gone
What’s done is done

A song for no one’s in my hand
A song they’ll never understand
Til I have gone
And tomorrow brings the sun

It is just such a pure song, he has a superb voice πŸ™‚ Go out and try to find some Ian Broudie, you could not be dissapointed.

hide and seek

The OC has introduced or re-introduced me to many, many songs, in fact maybe I just watch it for the music (who am I kidding). Well in the Finale an incredibly enchanting song was played. Which since getting the song I have had on continuos repeat. It wakes up something inside me, during essay writing last night, when I had a block I would listen to the song a couple of times and then go back and type πŸ™‚ Motivating music. So much of my life is about Music, sounds. When I am on the bus with earphones in my ear, I am not just listening to the music but to everything happening around me. The melody of life with the harmony of music flowing and weaving around it. Just Listen.

Hide and Seek
by Imogen Heap

where are we? what the hell is going on?
the dust has only just began to fall
crop circles in the carpet, sinking, feeling
spin me around again and rub my eyes
this can’t be happening
when busy streets a mess with people would stop to hold their heads heavy

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines?
all those years they were here first

oily marks appear on walls
where pleasue moments hung before
the takeover, the sweeping insensitivity of this
still alive

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines? oh, you won’t catch me around here
blood and tears they were here first

mm what you say
oh that you only meant well, well of course you did
mm what you say
mm that it’s all for the best, of course it is
mm what you say
that IT’S JUST what we need, you decided this
mm what you say
what did she say?

ransom notes keep falling at your mouth
mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs
speak no feeling no i don’t believe you
you don’t care a bit you don’t care a bit

you don’t care a bit
you don’t care a bit
you don’t care a bit
you don’t care a bit
you don’t care a bit

a new pick me up.

I was watching an early season 4 episode of Alias and heard this song in the background when a very nice Sydney/Vaughn moment was happening. The lyrics struck a chord with me. They make me smile, take me to a happy place.

by the windowThe Wind
Cat Stevens

I listen to the wind
to the wind of my soul
Where I’ll end up well I think,
only God really knows
I’ve sat upon the setting sun
But never, never never never
I never wanted water once
No, never, never, never

I listen to my words but
they fall far below
I let my music take me
where my heart wants to go
I swam upon the devil’s lake
But never, never never never
I’ll never make the same mistake
No, never, never, never

In other news, the Giant Killers(3/39) beat Have a Go(7/34); the Girls won the Tatts & Tiaras trivia comp on Saturday night (go team); a fun day scrap shopping on Saturday, 35% off at our little hang-out (Scrap That) and then checking out a new store – Scrapbooks etc, nice range, bit pricey, organised by theme πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ but so so so pretty and airy; watching Tom Horn with Big Pete, Sean’s netball teams flogging the gold coast teams (80ish-8 and 80ish-20) Go Eagles!

That is how it went, avoiding my essay yet again.
