hide and seek

The OC has introduced or re-introduced me to many, many songs, in fact maybe I just watch it for the music (who am I kidding). Well in the Finale an incredibly enchanting song was played. Which since getting the song I have had on continuos repeat. It wakes up something inside me, during essay writing last night, when I had a block I would listen to the song a couple of times and then go back and type πŸ™‚ Motivating music. So much of my life is about Music, sounds. When I am on the bus with earphones in my ear, I am not just listening to the music but to everything happening around me. The melody of life with the harmony of music flowing and weaving around it. Just Listen.

Hide and Seek
by Imogen Heap

where are we? what the hell is going on?
the dust has only just began to fall
crop circles in the carpet, sinking, feeling
spin me around again and rub my eyes
this can’t be happening
when busy streets a mess with people would stop to hold their heads heavy

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines?
all those years they were here first

oily marks appear on walls
where pleasue moments hung before
the takeover, the sweeping insensitivity of this
still alive

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines? oh, you won’t catch me around here
blood and tears they were here first

mm what you say
oh that you only meant well, well of course you did
mm what you say
mm that it’s all for the best, of course it is
mm what you say
that IT’S JUST what we need, you decided this
mm what you say
what did she say?

ransom notes keep falling at your mouth
mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs
speak no feeling no i don’t believe you
you don’t care a bit you don’t care a bit

you don’t care a bit
you don’t care a bit
you don’t care a bit
you don’t care a bit
you don’t care a bit

music

The one thing I undoubtedly miss the most from High School (other than near daily doughnut persons and caramel slices, for which my figure shows the absence of such goodies) is music.

I miss so much my beloved Olga, my farting bedpost, more commonly identified as a Bassoon. I miss afternoons and mornings of rehearsals. I miss Jabsy chiding me for not practicing. I miss the enjoyment that I got through Music.

Olga was a Fox Renard 41, When I have the money (sometime after finishing uni but before kids) I will be buying a Bassoon, it may not be a 601 that could be considered the Rolls Royce of the Fox line-up. It probably will be a 222, though if any one has a spare US$16K, feel free to buy me a 601 πŸ™‚ I will start taking lessons and putting the dedication into it that I didn’t when in High School.

When I was with Karl in San Jose after I finished year 12, I made a trip up to Berkely to visit Forrests, I may not have bought anything and saw the sales assistants as utter snobs, but I was awed by the fact that whilst in that store I was surronded by other double reeders.

Whilst I do have a flute, for which I played before changing to the Bassoon, she just didn’t bring me the satisfaction that Olga brought me. Also I never was a decent flute player ;).

Not just Olga I miss but the busyness of getting ready for a concert, the singing in choirs. I miss making music.

a new pick me up.

I was watching an early season 4 episode of Alias and heard this song in the background when a very nice Sydney/Vaughn moment was happening. The lyrics struck a chord with me. They make me smile, take me to a happy place.

by the windowThe Wind
Cat Stevens

I listen to the wind
to the wind of my soul
Where I’ll end up well I think,
only God really knows
I’ve sat upon the setting sun
But never, never never never
I never wanted water once
No, never, never, never

I listen to my words but
they fall far below
I let my music take me
where my heart wants to go
I swam upon the devil’s lake
But never, never never never
I’ll never make the same mistake
No, never, never, never

In other news, the Giant Killers(3/39) beat Have a Go(7/34); the Girls won the Tatts & Tiaras trivia comp on Saturday night (go team); a fun day scrap shopping on Saturday, 35% off at our little hang-out (Scrap That) and then checking out a new store – Scrapbooks etc, nice range, bit pricey, organised by theme πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ but so so so pretty and airy; watching Tom Horn with Big Pete, Sean’s netball teams flogging the gold coast teams (80ish-8 and 80ish-20) Go Eagles!

That is how it went, avoiding my essay yet again.

forever young

This is my utter most favourite song at the moment, much more meaningful than that ‘I hope you dance’ song (if you are a scrapbooker you might know what I mean).

I had only until recently heard the Bruce Springsteen version and did not “hear” the lyrics, on my quest for new Meat Loaf I saw he did a version, had to get that and then I got the original too. One happy girl πŸ™‚

Going shopping/socialising at Scrap That later today since they have a 35% off sale today πŸ™‚ not that I have much money but I do need to get some supplies for a couple of projects I am working on. Sean’s family is hosting a trivia night tonight, can’t wait for that, going to be a blast, hanging out with Emma (Sean has netball games for the most part tonight), drinking, eating, having fun. Then tomorrow is Cricket, will the Giant Killers continue their winning streak and out bat and out bowl “Have A go”? Cricket is always good for me, I take along my uni work and get a lot of reading done – in this case my reading is research on my current assignment “Changing values in Thai society”. The best part of the weekend? I get to have the silver bullet for the whole weekend!

Forever Young

Bob Dylan (covered by many, Meat Loaf does the best cover)

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

Meat Loaf

no not the meal (never had it) but the artist. For the last 50 mins I have had “I’d do anything for love on repeat, it was on the radio when I was on my way home from work and then I just had to listen to it. I often wish now that I had forked out the money to see Meat Loaf when they toured a while back but hey that is life. Meat Loaf just makes me jump round the room with an air guitar, blasting out the words.

A random Meat Loaf memory, the first night I went to Sean’s place, Michael (Sean’s littler brother who needs a hair cut or at least a trim), put on an Meat Loaf CD, loaded up “Bat out of Hell” and started thrashing round the room, asking me what I thought of Meat Loaf, I of course replied I love him, who couldn’t. Nothing like some Meat Loaf on the night you meet the family.
