30 days of Chocolate

White Chocolate Strawberry TartletFor lunch today, Mary, Mum and I went into Picasso’s at the Carlton Crest to sample the 30 Days of Chocolate that they have been running through the month of June in partnership with Lindt.

I would like to say that it was fantastic and the best I have tasted but it wasn’t. I am not saying it was bad, it was quite nice but it so wasn’t what the articles and pictures had led us to believe. The foods that were part of the buffet were individually relatively nice but quite a few of them were stretching it to be an “amazing chocolate buffet will satisfy all chocolate fantasies”.

The Choc Macadamia Tartlet I had was gorgeous as was the White Chocolate Strawberry Tartlet (pictured). The choc slice I had was a bit blah and the White/ Dark Chocolate Eclair was ok I guess but it was just a choux pastry with some white chocolate drizzled on the top and some dark chocolate in the middle.

We did go on the second last day as I only read about it in the paper late last week and I read the food section of the paper religiously, which is why we were so surprised to find that it was nearly over. I wonder if it would have been better near the start of the month when the staff and chefs were still excited about it.

For lunch the Chocolate Buffet cost $16.50 each, which would have been much nicer if it was offered as a special dessert menu for the month of June. Mary also ordered the pumpkin soup which was divine, the pumpkin must have been roasted and caramalised before the soup was made as there was just this gorgeous taste running through it. That soup was divine. We also got the House Bread which was also divine. It was a round loaf which almost sliced through and in each cut they had put things such as walnut harissa, pesto, cheese and then the loaf was sprinkled with cheese and grilled – it was pure heaven.

So whilst the Chocolate Buffet was not what we would have hoped for we still had some nice things.

Mary is a fan of a good garage sale or op-shop so on the way home we stopped in at a Lifeline store and all three of us came out with stuff that we liked. I picked up the original Genius edition (1981) of Trivial Pursuit for the grand total of $12 with all the pieces. So I am pretty stoked, I have always wanted a copy of the game as I love playing it or more so just sitting there with a stack of cards asking myself the questions πŸ™‚

look at the time

hehe I stayed up πŸ™‚

now I am just thinking should I get up in 6 hrs so I could have 04/05/06 07:08:09?

shirts and a scarf

Threadless is having a $10 tee sale for the next couple of days until May 8, so if there were any shirts that you like I would pick them up now! I ordered 7 earlier πŸ™‚ With the shipping to Australia included they work out to be a bit less than AU$16 each which is quite a bargain considering to buy a similar shirt here in Aus I would probably be looking at AU$25-35 at least.

So yeah go pick up a $10 shirt at threadless, they make you happy πŸ™‚ In case you are wondering about sizes, I wear the girly XL, which is a little tight round the breast area but as long as I don’t wear a bra that enhances them it is all good. The next size up from the girly XL is the mens medium. Also if you use the coupon code SUPER TEES it will take a further $3 off your total and if you total is over $50 use the coupon code PARSONS-NYC and save $5 off your purchase πŸ™‚
Palm Tree Scarf
This is a scarf that I crocheted on the bus to and from uni a little while ago and on the weekend I finally got round to weaving in all the loose ends and packaging it up to be sent round the world to a friend who lives in a very cold place and I think could use some cheering up with the warm colours of the scarf when it is dark and cold in winter. Although I guess since it is coming into summer in the northern hemisphere she won’t get much use out of it for a while πŸ™‚

It is all crocheted in half-double or half-treble depending on which country you come from and which crochet language you use.

I was searching round the garden as the best place to photograph the scarf and when I spotted the palm trees in the driveway I just knew it would just look cool tied round the trunk πŸ™‚

Threadless in Suburbia

threadless in suburbia I have known threadless rocks for the last couple of years now but only in the last month or so have I started to look at it more often and then actually made the jump and ordered two shirts. They arrived yesterday πŸ™‚

Here I am in shirt #1 – Suburbia. I just love how the letters are formed in the map of the roads πŸ™‚ Mum took this photo of me, standing in the middle of suburban Brisbane, which just happens to be on our street πŸ™‚

Shirt #2 will be photographed sometime in the near future when I can arrange styling I want for it πŸ™‚

One thing I love about the shirts is that they are a) relatively long because frankly I don’t want to show you my stomach and b) they have a nice neck. I hate t-shirts that have tight necks because I always feel like they are choking me.
There is a sale coming up soon so I plan on picking up a *few* more (I know Mum, you think I have enough shirts but it is not like I am spending money on sex, drugs or rock & roll, ok so maybe I do spend it on rock & roll but that is not the point).

For the next four weeks I have one essay due each week, so much *fun*!!! Back to essay writing now.

April 4

me, april 4 2006Because I hate coming up with post titles, lets just use the date as the title. I don’t like posts without photos, so I took a photo of myself today just before I left for uni. Though my hair did not last long before I tied it up in a bun, I like having “longish” hair but I hate the feel of it getting sweaty on my neck. yuck.

I even wore a necklace to uni today, not something I usually do, it is one I made myself for a Scrapbook Creations article I did on making jewellery from Making Memories Stitched Tin Tiles probably two years ago now. I love those tiles.

On to cool things.

I was already ten months ago to make a grass couch in the backyard after seeing this article on the Readymade website and Mum was keen for it as well except we live in a place where that thing called water isn’t exactly growing on trees so if we wanted to have a grass couch in the backyard we would have to move a far, far way away. So dude, if I ever move somewhere where I could do such a thing, it would be the first thing on my agenda.

So imagine how much I loved this article on Treehugger today? Dude, could you imagine five or six of these in a circle, how much would it rock, lounging in grass chairs with a few cold ones with your mates on a Sunday arvo or lazying around on a sunny morning with the paper?

uni, a dairy fairy and japanese magazines

Well Uni started on Monday and I am in the midst of getting back into the hang of doing my readings, taking notes and trying my hardest not to fall asleep in class and trying not to strangle a certain professor and making some new friends.

Due to some staffing changes at work I am now back in the dairy and freezer where I belong playing the role of a “dairy fairy”. I was trained at my previous supermarket in the dairy but then due to a staffing change I was jolted out of the dairy and into grocery before getting a spot as a meat packer which I quite enjoyed. However when I got my job with the company I am with now, they only had night fill roles open so that is what I took and since then I have been moonlighting as a dairy fairy when they have needed me but alas I have always had to hand my “wings” back after a couple of hours but not any longer! Nothing like lifting milk-crates and filling the ice-fridge to give the arms a work-out πŸ™‚ Yay for the Dairy.

A while ago I mentioned getting some Japanese patchwork and quilting magazines out of the quilt guild’s library, well I scanned them in the other week and uploaded them to Flickr last night so for your inspiration goodness I share with you πŸ™‚

The first set come from a magazine called Patchwork Club. Click on any of the photos to be taken to it’s gallery where there are more scans.
