it is here

The courier arrived at house at 9:34am this morning, everyone was gone already except for Matthew who was sleeping and decided to ignore the bell, so when I got home from uni at 11:10ish I opened the letter box to see if the mail had arrived and lo and behold there was a missed delivery slip, to be picked up after 12:30 at the local post office. So I berate Matthew for not answering the door and prepare to wait, excitedly talk to Karl and Karyn about it.

Round about 12:10, I pop on the bike and cycle down to the post office, I arrive at 12:22, the courier had not arrived yet. 12:30 comes and goes and he still has not arrived. 12:40, he pulls up and as he walks toward the post office with a single parcel. My Parcel. I greet him at the door, he asks if this mine and I say it is sure is, he comments that he was suprised that no-one was home since someone normally is – shows how often I get stuff delivered emoticon. I signed the docket, popped the parcel in my bag and powered home, ripped it open, found the english manual, my spainish is nowhere that good. Located the battery, popped it in the charger and waited. Still waiting, though I did take it out after 30 mins at Karl’s asking to take some photos but of course he went to bed whilst I was still figuring out the software. Battery is back in the charger now.

Over all it is so small, with the 50mm attached it will fit quite nicely in my handbag πŸ™‚ :).

giving blood

This evening, Mum and I popped into the Red Cross Blood Service in the city and gave blood for our second time together. Mum has donated whole blood heaps of times before and 3 months ago, I had my first donation with Mum and Karl.

My haemoglobin level the first time I gave blood was 121g/L(the min for females is 120g/L – I just scrape in) and in the allocated 15 mins I was not able to donate the 470mls, I think I was round 100mls short. I fainted the next morning and was unable to go to work, I am told – I have little memory of this happening.

Tonight again my haemoglobin level was 121g/L and I only was able to produce 380ml in my 15 mins, even after my chair was raised to full height in the name of gravity. I have band-aids on both arms as the first arm was an unsuccessful attempt (lots of pain) but the second one was fine.

Mum said she was suprised that I came again but even though I can’t stand giving blood, I dislike the needle going in, I dislike the pipe coming out my arm, my only strength is watching the number raise closer to 470mls in a race with Mum. I gave blood again even though it is not a pleasant experience for me, is because the hour or so I spend in at the donor centre is helping others, my donation can save up to three lives or contribute to 15 different forms of life saving or life improving blood products.

I am making a difference.

When was the last time you gave blood?

Brooke’s 18th

Brooke and MintyLast night partway through Matthew’s 18th party, Sean and I made our way over to Brooke’s 18th, which was also the party for her friend Abby who had turned 18 recently as well. We had a great night, hanging out with guys from Sean’s indoor team, Brooke and her friends as well as the various parents. It was a nice, relaxed night hanging out on the deck, eating, laughing, drinking, chatting and watching a certain someone pretend to feed the dog burbon. <– which was immensley funny to watch the reaction when people thought the dog was been fed burbon.

After the utterly decant cake from Chocolat and home made yummies, we piled into to two maxi taxis to head off to Friday’s for a fun filled night. Hanging out at Friday’s is always great since they have a big outside are to sit, drink, talk etc. Both birthday girls scored us all free entry and they got some free drinks as well. I shouted Brooke a Viagra (Vodka, Blue Curacao and Red Bull). Sean shouted me a Skyy Platinum, which I had not tried before and was very tasty. The highlight of the night for Sean and Dave was for sure their decision to get a Johnny Walker Blue on the rocks between them, costing them AU$25. I had a sip and whoa what a scotch, I think I will stay to the Johnny Black. Somewhere near 2:20am, Sean and I arrived back at his place, after one of the best nights out I had in long time. Happy Birthday Brooke!!

a new filofax

This morning, after dropping Sean’s father at Brooke’s house to collect his car and myself doing a drop and run mail call at Brooke’s doorstep. We headed off to Bulimba to the Queensland Centre for Photography where my aunt Julie, has some photographs on display. Quite interesting.

After looking at the exhibit, Sean headed back to his place and I went home with Mum and Grandad. On the way we stopped in at Officeworks for Mum to get some stuff for school, whilst she was getting what she wanted I headed over to the Bargain bin, where I picked up a Filofax Metrople for AU$17, retails for ~AU$70, score:), I have wanted a Filofax now since 1999, I finally have one πŸ™‚ I also picked up a desk calender refill, which I plan to use in my scrapbooking for 43cents.

Now I am looking at MY FiloFax, affraid to mess it up by writing in it, am also going through the photos I took at Matthew’s and then Brooke’s 18th parties last night, which will be up on the web later on this arvo.

silly helen

when I start writing this it is 4:34am, I should have been in bed 4 hrs ago, but what I have been doing – fixing and re-designing the code for this site. I loaded the site up this evening and the side bar was off, played around and played around and could not find the errror, so I loaded my back-up whilst I did this one. I quite like it, still have to add some code back into the sidebar, but I like it, looking good and different. The fab photo in the header was taken by my Mum, who is going to chide me when she reads this post and probably call me a silly girl πŸ˜€
