A Camera Case

Tonight I made my new little camera a new little case. It turned out pretty close to how I pictured it in my head. Now my camera will be protected from bumps and scratches in my bag πŸ˜€ I used some Japanese fabric that I picked up a few years ago along with some matching navy linen for the lining. To show who I am I also added a name tag to the back πŸ˜€

a second attempt.

I have a new toy tool to add to my toytool box. On Sunday I picked up a Pansonic Lumix TZ7. I’ve been wanting a compact camera for a while now and the opportunity arose for me to pick it up for a very good price ($535) as a local white goods retailer was offering a cost +3% sale for emergency and corrective services staff/volunteers. From what I have done with it so far I am really impressed. Earlier in the week I had called them to see what cameras they stocked as I was looking at a few Canon compacts as well as a few Panasonic compacts, they advised they no longer stock Canon cameras, cut my choices in half πŸ™‚ To help in my decision I made a spreadsheet up which I looked over a hundred times before Sunday Morning. It doesn’t have any manual modes, it doesn’t have raw files but it is just about exactly what I wanted.

camera choices

Now I have a camera that fits in my pocket, in all my handbags, takes pretty darn good videos and macros. Very fun. It is so fun and easy that I have decided to have another crack at doing a 365 project. Last year I tried and ended up doing 75 days and I often struggled to get a unique photo. Looking at those photos now I love them so much. As you may have realised I have been in a bit of a vortex the last few/many months. I have struggled to take photos that I like or more to the point found it hard to take photos. I would have my camera with me and know the photo I wanted to take but just not get that photo as hard as I tried. The last nine months have been quite an adventure with work, life and everything else. Enough is enough and step by step, things are getting back on track.

Back to the topic at hand. I present my first 3 photos for 365 in 09/10.

JJJ Hottest 100 of all time 2009

Well a few hours ago #1 of the Triple J Hottest 100 Of All time 2009 was announced, and looking at the list of the following songs that I nominated and what ended up on the list I scored a big 0 out of 0
Simon & Garfunkel – The 58th Bridge Song
Split Enz – Six Months On A Leaky Boat
Mountain Goats, The – This Year
Breeders, The – Safari
Saints, The – (i’m) Stranded
Peter Combe – Mr. Clicketty Cane
Sarah McLachlan – Adia
Tori Amos – Cornflake Girl
Go-Betweens, The – Cattle And Cane
Leonard Cohen – Like A Bird (Bird On The Wire)

I had no hope for Simon & Garfunkel or Peter Combe and Leonard Cohen was a long shot but I would have thought at least Tori Amos with Cornflake Girl would have been in there. In terms of linking the 10 songs I voted for and didn’t appear in the hottest 100 with the 100 that actually did appear. Three songs have links.
3. Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah
I voted for Leonard Cohen – Like A Bird (Bird On The Wire). Hallelujah was of course written by Leonard Cohen
29. Pixies – Where Is My Mind?
I voted for The Breeders – Safari. Of course after The Pixies came something greater, The Breeders
50. Crowded House – Don’t Dream It’s Over
But before Crowed House, there was Split Enz and I voted for Split Enz – Six Months On A Leaky Boat.

If I had entered the same list into the Hottest 100 Of All Time in 1998 I would have got 1 out of 9 (Can’t count The Mountain Goats as it was not yet released). Tori Amos – Cornflake Girl came in at 27. Crowded House – Don’t Dream It’s Over came in at 76 in 1998.

If I had entered those songs for the Hottest 100 Of All Time in 1989, I would have had a much higher hit rate with the following two from my list appearing.
11 The Go-Betweens – Cattle & Cane
51 The Saints – (I’m) Stranded

When I was thinking about the songs to vote for I did pick songs that aren’t the most talked about. I picked songs that mean something to me, songs that I felt deserved a chance. If I had voted for the 10 songs that I love and would pick to be in the hottest 100 I would have voted for the following.

4. Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart
12. Oasis – Wonderwall
23. Hunters & Collectors – Throw Your Arms Around Me
40. Nirvana – Come As You Are
54. The Cure – Close To Me
66. Elton John – Tiny Dancer
73. The Clash – London Calling
84. Bob Marley & The Wailers – No Woman, No Cry
86. The Beatles – Come Together
97. Midnight Oil – Beds Are Burning

It will be interesting in the coming days to see the list dissected and hopefully some more of the results after 100 will come out as well. Till 2018 when it happens all over again.

a granny rug update

Granny Square Update

As promised on Wednesday, here are some new photos of my rug. I am now over half way into my third ball. My routine most days is that I will crochet a round a night before bed. If I catch the train to work, I crochet on the train but as I ride pretty much every day now I miss that crochet time but instead get lovely cycling time. A fair trade off.

Granny Square Update

a mid week break

Today I have the day off work. I have accrued five days of “flex” leave over the last few months due to working every Monday public holiday and I haven’t had a chance to take them yet. The other week I decided that I would take about one day off a fortnight till I had used them up. πŸ™‚

I’ve just put profiteroles in the oven for morno’s at work tomorrow πŸ™‚ I’ve never made a choux pastry before so I hope they turn out well. I think it will be a big test of the oven and it’s quirks.

This morning I picked up some more yarn for my granny blanket, I’ve just started my third ball and it is currently about 23″ square. I’m looking at getting it to probably at least 50″ square. Will have to take a new photo later.
